It’s not every day that one gets to enjoy true hospitality at one of the best hotels in the world, but at the White Elephant Nantucket you can expect to be treated like royalty…and royalty might indeed be staying next door. Though since I was staying in the even-more-amazing 32 Main Street Loft, I didn’t even have to worry about next door neighbors. And any room that includes its own BMW and cellphone is “worthy” in my book. This palatial apartment was so large that I even played hide-and-seek with my fellow guests…and couldn’t find them. 2,500 square feet of elegant Nantucket charm.
The weird thing was that the apartment was not at all ostentatious. It felt cozy, warm, elegant, and refined. Each of the three main rooms (two bedrooms and a giant living-dining-kitchen) had flat screen tvs that were bigger than a pool table. The dining area could easily seat 8, and the kitchen sported a full-size fridge, a giant range, oven, and dishwasher. It felt like the home I would love to have, if only I could afford to live on Nantucket, that is.
I didn’t avail myself of the BMW nor the cellphone, as I had already rented a Wrangler to check out the seals and lighthouse. But the room really stayed with me, a place I’d recommend without hesitation and (full disclosure), I was staying there courtesy of the establishment. While I stand by everything I’ve written above, a nice place is even nicer when it doesn’t come with a price tag.
