Most of you know me as a travel writer and photographer, but as of today, I’ve added “novelist” to my name as well. Sunsets of Tulum is a dark, literary love story about a man who takes a short break in Cancún that changes his life forever. It’s a novel for anyone who’s longed to visit Mexico and maybe been (as the narrator) a little fearful. It’s a novel that will take you there, vividly and concretely. It’s also a love story, not only between a man and a woman, but about a man falling in love with Mexico as well.
When I wrote it, I used to brag that the descriptions of the town and surroundings were accurate “to the palm leaf.” I didn’t realize that the problem with writing a minutely detailed book is that it stays the same…while the world changes. But while Tulum has changed vastly since the novel’s inspiration (when it was an off-the-map little tourist town, not the burgeoning mega destination it is now!), the book will still be a great armchair adventure.
“Sunsets of Tulum is an impressively written and exceptionally absorbing novel from first page to last.”

I’m coining a new phrase: Destination Fiction.
Fiction that — like Paul Bowles’ masterpiece A Sheltering Sky or Malcolm Lowery’s Under the Volcano — brings the reader to a certain place at a certain time, explaining a country as well as unfolding a plotline.
